There were many people that were involved in the Selma marches. A few of them are Abraham Joshua Heschel, John Lewis, Ralph Abenathy, Ralph Bunche, Fred Shultheswort, and Jimmie Lee Jackson
JOHN LEWIS
Jones Lewis’s skull was fracture during the first Selma march. When he leaned down to pray the cops started to beat him with night sticks. Even though his skull was fractured he escaped to a church in Selma. John Lewis appeared before television cameras before he could be taken to the hospital.
JIMMY LEE JACKSON
On February 18th, 1965 Jimmy Lee Jackson's mother and grandfather participated in the march. They were both attacked with billy clubs and beat. When Jimmy went to help them he was shot in the stomach by a state trooper. He was arrested and charged with battery before he could even be taken to the hospitable.
JAMES REED
James Reed marched in the second Selma marches. On the 8th of march he was attacked by a white mob. They beat him with clubs. He suffered terrible head injury's, and died two days later. After his death, a national outcry erupted in the Deep South against the activities of white racists.
